Back in 1999, I took a trip to Africa. It was quite enjoyable, and I took many pictures despite having my camera jam while in Kenya. I decided that one day I would return.
My sister, Lillian, knew I had enjoyed the trip, and was looking at an idea for a trip with our parents. She settled on a camping safari to Tanzania, and asked if I wanted to join the trip. I did. So, less than 18 months after returning from Africa, I was returning.
Meanwhile, I had changed jobs from Netscape/AOL to a startup. Things were not going well for me there; I had problems with my immediate manager, despite getting along with the other founders. Things came to a head, so I opted to leave. I received a reasonable severance package, and was ready to leave on my adventure.
