Images of Calaveras County

The highlight of Calaveras County to me is the big trees. I took pictures on November 7, 2009.

Tall Pines

The pine trees have to be tall to get sun around the sequoias.
Pine Cone

The pine cones were large.
Big Stump

The big stump was the largest tree, before they cut it.
The Sequoias

The sequoias tower.
Bark

There were little buts of fern growing on the bark.
More Sequoias

I liked the reddish hues.
Roots

I tried for an artistic effect, with the sun shining behind the roots of the fallen giant.
More Sequoias

A lot of tall trees.
Scar

Sequoias are highly resistant to fire.

Pine Cones

These would fall quite a way.
Last Sequoias

At the end of the trail.
The Range of Light

The Sierra Nevada are called the range of light.
Stanislaus River

The Stanislaus river cuts through the park with runoff from the higher mountains to the east.
Sunset

The hues of sunset highlight the nearly empty reservoir.
