Images of Southeastern Utah

Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and the surrounding areas, were another destination for my Utah trips.

Canyonlands

The actual canyons were quite distant, and accessible by four-wheeled drive or foot only.
Mesa Arch

Mesa Arch is at the lip of a canyon.
Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge is one of the largest natural bridges. A natural bridge is created by flowing water, where an arch is made by the winds.
Capitol Ref

Capital Reef is a symbolic boundary between the lower, dry desert, and the high desert.
A Cut

It has several streams that cut through the reef.

The Canyon Wall approaching Needles

Approaching the Needles, one passes through a long canyon. This was along the side of a canyon, the intricate erosion is interesting.
A View in the Needles

Of course, there are many canyons in Canyonlands. This is a small one, fed by a local stream.
Looking down into a Canyon

When the canyons get big, they can carve massive structures, like this.
The Colorado River

One of the better carvers in the world is the Colorado River. Here, we're looking down on the river from an overlook in the Needles.
The Canyon Wall

The southern walls of the canyons still have snow.
